LAHORE, May 26: A local businessman has got installed a water filtration plant at Datanagar (Badami Bagh) to facilitate the residents in getting clean drinking water in the area.

The businessman is also distributing plastic bottles (11-litre capacity) to each resident visiting the plant to get clean drinking water.

“My objective is to serve the masses by utilising my resources. I believe that if we serve humanity, Allah Almighty gives us much more than we spend,” said the businessman, who requested not to be named.

He said before buying the water filtration plant and fixing it at a suitable place in the locality, he had contacted many people to be part of the pro-poor initiative but there was little response.

“Before installing the plant I first got constructed a special outlet near my factory. Then I got the plant installed there and invited my factory workers and locals of the area to start taking clean drinking water from there,” he said.

He said he had also bought 1,000 plastic bottles and started distributing these with clean water among the residents so that they could get some relief in hard times.

He said at present the plant was producing clean water for the consumption of around 15,000 people on a daily basis. “I have also appointed a man to operate the plant. Moreover, I have arranged a generator so as to make the plant operative round the clock during the worst loadshedding,” he said.

“If you have no money, you can help the elderly people in crossing roads, guide people in search of someone and do several other philanthropic works. And if you have money you can help people through many other ways,” he said.

He said earlier he got repaired a small bridge in his area to facilitate the people. He said everyone should help those in need irrespective of caste, colour or creed.

He also appealed to Wasa officials to pay attention toward the problems being faced by the Badami Bagh residents. He said he had also thought about various other development works on a self-help basis.
