RAWALPINDI, May 22: Justice Khwaja Imtiaz Ahmed of the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, sought on Tuesday comments of secretaries of foreign affairs, interior and defence on a petition filed against the possible resumption of Nato supply.

The petition was filed by an Attock-based lawyer Sardar Zaheer Ahmed. The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Inamur Rahim, told the court that the Parliamentary Committee on National Security had recommended that the Nato supply would be resumed after the US would tender an unconditional apology on the unprovoked attack on the Salala checkpost.

He said that according to the recommendations of the parliamentary committee the Pakistani routes would not be used for transportation of lethal weapons and claimed that Nato forces used the lethal weapons and ammunition against the Pakistan army at the Salala post that had reached Afghanistan through Pakistan in Nato containers.

Advocate Rahim expressed apprehensions that Nato forces would use the same ammunition again against the Pakistan army after resumption of Nato supply and requested the court for giving directions to ministries concerned not to allow the Nato supply till the US acted in accordance with the recommendations of the parliamentary committee.

Advocate Rahim told Dawn that the Ex-Servicemen Society had adopted the petition and on the next date of hearing Col (retd) Umer Shabbir of legal forum and Col (retd) Anwar Afridi would appear to argue the same case in the LHC.
