LARKANA, May 1: An attempt on the life of a religious leader led to protest and closure of Shahdadkot on Tuesday.

The Shia Ulema leaders have condemned the attack on Shafqat Ali Harho Domki, Qambar district president the Shia Ulema Council, and called for three-day shutter-down strike in Shahdadkot.

The injured leader was taken to the Chandka Medical College Hospital where he underwent surgery and has been kept in the Intensive Care Unit.

He was in a stable condition, doctors said. His son Rehmat Ali Harho told Dawn that two men on a motorcycle chased his father who was also riding a motorcycle. They intercepted him at Qubo Saeed Khan bus terminal and fired at him from point blank range.

A bullet hit him in the abdomen.

Rehmat Ali said that they knew the assailants but would not disclose their names at this juncture. The news about the incident spread in Shahdadkot like a jungle fire. A large number of people took to streets and shopkeepers closed their shops. The protesters were demanding early arrest of the attackers.

A large number of activists of Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen took out a procession in Larkana.
