MUZAFFARABAD/SIALKOT, May 25: Fourteen people were killed in Indian shelling in two districts of Azad Kashmir on Friday and ten were killed on Saturday in Sialkot sector on Saturday.
In Azak Kashmir sector, the Indian troops resumed shelling on Saturday in which five people were injured, police said.
On Friday evening, police said, Razzaq and Rehmat were killed and Mohammad Bashir was injured in Samahni sector of district Bhimbher. In Kotli district, Nur Begum, widow of Ghulam Mohammad, who was injured earlier in the day in Khuiratta sector, succumbed to injuries in DHQ hospital, Kotli. Mohammad Sarwar, 32, was killed and Mohammad Khaliq was injured in Charoi sector of district Kotli.
Police said the cross border shelling came to a halt at 10pm on Friday, but it resumed at 9:30am on Saturday in Samahni sector.
“The shelling was heavy and continued till afternoon,” a police official in Bhimbher said and added that five persons, identified as Farman Ali, Qurban Ali, Irshad, Abdul Qayyum and Saeeda Bano, were injured.
Police said a woman, Kalima Bibi, wife of Nadim, was injured in a landmine explosion in Digwar village in district Bagh on Friday evening.
SIALKOT: Ten villagers were killed and seven villagers including two women were seriously injured by stepped up Indian mortar shelling on Pakistani border villagers in Sialkot working boundary’s Chaprar, Chhumb Joriyaan (Gujrat) and Shakargarh-Narowal sectors, our coreespondent addas.
According to the official sources, Ghulam Farid (38) in village “Jhumiyaan Dalan” (Bajwat sector), Ghulam Asghar, Mohammad Anwar, Babar Hussain, Maqbool Hussain and Farzana Javaid in Chaprar sector and Nazia Bibi, Mohammad Aslam and Ehsan in Shakargarh-narowal sector, were sitting in the courtyards of their houses, when, some Indian mortar shells hit them, killing Ghulam Asghar and Mohammad Anwar on the spot and injuring others seriously. The identity of five others could not be established till our going to press.
The injured were admitted to Sialkot CMH, in critical condition. Officials said two villages Umarwali and Rangpur Jattan had been razed to the ground by heavy shelling.
Six heavy mortar shells fell in Government Girls High School Merajkey, two of them exploded, damaging the school’s building.
All the prisoners have been shifted to Sialkot district jail from Shakargarh-Narowal jails following the mounting tension between on borders.
