PIA left with 30 aircraft after PK-8303 crash

RAWALPINDI: After the crash of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-8303 on May 22, the airlines’ fleet is now left with 30 advanced aircraft to operate on international and domestic routes.
PIA’s Airbus A320, registration number AP-BLD, crashed in a residential area in Karachi, killing 97 passengers on board. Two passengers survived the crash.
The accident happened just seven days after the government permitted PIA to operate limited domestic flights from six airports.
PIA’s fleet currently consists of 11 Airbus A320-200, three ATR 42-500, four ATR72-500, six Boeing 777-200ER, two Boeing 777-200LR, four Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for domestic and international flights.
PIA plans to add five more aircraft to its fleet by the end of this year.
Furthermore, the government has extended suspension of international flight operations till May 31.

Now is a good tome to buy planes due to corona driving prices down - we should only be buying new planes to add to our fleet and should only be operating key routes where we can make a profit , alternatively we should sell and privatise PIA

Please retest your Sop's to international standards,retest your pilot's to international standards fire incompetent,risky pilot's and revamp PIA to international standards. Associations should be banned have SOPs for criteria and follow it. So fire everyone and rehire on the new criteria. Now is the time,we have suffered enough.

The crashed PIA aircraft PK-8303 is insured with the insurance company and PIA should approach the relevant insurance company to claim the loss of aircraft and purchase a brandnew plane from Airbus company.
The passengers were also insured and covered under the IATA rules.
The government shall also claim insurance money from the insurance company and pay the insurance amount to the legal heirs of the deceased passengers.

The complete details of all aircrafts should be made public. 2nd hand aircrafts shouldn't be allowed. Maintenance should be as per schedule. Only, certified people should be put in job. Safety of Pakistanis should be of foremost importance.

This number is too much because now you will see a massive decline in international travel on PIA. People will start avoiding PIA and would prefer Emirates, Etihad or Qatar more than ever. As for domestic travel, there is not much choice, other airlines are not much better. But real money for PIA comes from international routes, when people start switching PIA will just go bankrupt.

Get rid of the “mafia” driving PIA to ground, ban associations etc, get rid of incompetent people, rehire people on merit. It will be an uphill battle as these “affected” will go to courts which will further delay things by allowing injunctions/stay etc but if executed property, well worth it.

Crashed aircraft was leased from GE, so, no insurance payment for the loss of aircraft to PIA; the payment will go to GE. IATA rules are for minimal insurance and that's only if airline wants to participate; PIA does not participate in any IATA optional requirements.
A320/777 costs about US$200M+ per aircraft, Pakistan is no financial position to purchase any new aircraft, Matter of fact, all 777 and A320 in PIA fleet are leased. PIA only owns ATRs (these are truly a death trap machines).

Better prefer quality over quantity! buy 1 brand new advanced tech aircraft instead of 5 worn out, closer to retirement types. Fire your extra luggage ( pilots, cabin crew, ground staff), keep the worthy competent ones and train them well. PIA doesn't have to touch every domestic or international destination, use common sense keep the busiest routes in and wait for revenue to pour in.

@Vinay Kumar, very well said. Air India has total debt which stands at Rs 58,000 crore, along with cumulative loss of Rs 70,000 crore. In 2019 they lost ONLY 7,600 crore. During the lockdown it is estimated to lose 30-35 crore per day. In a desperate move the government has allowed 100% NRI ownership to get rid of it. Intellectually, referring to the size of the fleet to measure an airline's performance is an incorrect approach. I guess the neighbor only had 1 point to make though.

I think fleet of Airbus A-320 and Boeing 777-300 are on leade from other Airlines. During eras of democracy, (Bynazir Zardari and Nawaz Sharif governments) PIA used as Kings' airline.Thousands illegal appointments were made by them who involved in negative activities and put the airline into financial crises.
