RAWALPINDI: Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood on Wednesday asked the heritage department and administration in Jhelum district to complete restoration work of the historical Rohtas Fort as soon as possible so it can become accessible to tourists.

He also directed that a tree plantation drive be launched in and around the fort as better facilities will increase tourism in the area.

Mr Mehmood also visited Jhelum to review development works in the district.

Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Saif Anwar Jappa gave a detailed briefing and assured the commissioner that development work will be completed in the stipulated timeframe.

Mr Mehmood remarked that there is a shortage of staff in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital which must be looked into and better health facilities be provided.

People should get quality treatment in the district so they do not have to go to Rawalpindi’s main hospital, he added.

Mr Mehmood also directed to conduct third party audit of development schemes to ensure that satisfactory work is being carried out.

The commissioner inspected educational institutions in different areas and said that facilities must be provided to both children and teachers, adding that the younger generation is our future and it is our duty to provide them with quality education in a better environment.
