CHARSADDA: Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan has expressed serious concerns over detention of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in “death cell” at Adiala jail and deteriorating health condition of imprisoned former president Asif Ali Zardari.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, he said that detaining a suspect in death cell was unjust. He said that all institutions had been engaged in political engineering for the sake of one person.

The ANP leader said that political parties had already reservations over one-sided accountability.

He said that National Accountability Bureau was being used as a tool to suppress political opponents.

He said that a suspect or under-trial prisoner could not be kept in death cell. He added that government should not torture its political opponents.

Mr Khan was also worried about the health condition of detained former president Asif Ali Zardari. He demanded of the government to provide all medical facilities to the ailing leader of Pakistan Peoples Party.

He said that court did not convict the former president.
