LAKKI MARWAT: The health department with support of local administration on Friday launched a fumigation campaign after detection of dengue cases in the Lakki Marwat district.

Deputy commissioner Jehangir Azam Wazir inaugurated the campaign in Lakki city.

The deputy commissioner also led an awareness walk wherein people from different walks of life participated. The participants carried banners inscribed with messages highlighting symptoms, treatment and precautionary measures against dengue fever.

On the occasion, Mr Wazir said the administration would conduct anti-mosquito spray in urban and rural localities to prevent mosquito-borne disease. He said isolated wards had been established in hospitals for dengue patients.

He called upon citizens to use nets during night, eliminate any spots containing clean water and keep water pots covered as precautionary measures against dengue.

ACTION AGAINST POACHERS: The Dera division wildlife department eliminated several birds’ hunting places and seized hunting equipment during a midnight operation, claimed an official on Friday.

The official said the operation was launched on the directives of divisional forest officer wildlife Khan Malook Khan following information that hunters were poaching quails in rural localities.

He said a raiding team seized nets, call back recorders and other hunting equipment in rural areas. He added the poachers had been booked under relevant sections of Wildlife and Biodiversity Act.

“The poachers play recorded voices of quails on call back recorders to deceive birds and capture them alive through nets,” he maintained.
