KARACHI: A woman was killed while trying to stop her son from committing suicide in their house in Marvi Goth off the National Highway on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday, police said.

Shah Latif Town SHO Gul Baig said that initial investigations suggested that Naushad, 24, pulled out his pistol and tried to shoot himself but his mother, Rukhsana Masood, 52, intervened in a bid to prevent him from ending his life.

Apparently, in the struggle between the two, the pistol went off wounding both of them, he said, adding that only one bullet was fired that first hit the man in the chest and then his mother.

They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced the woman dead on arrival. Her son was admitted for treatment.

The police seized the weapon and were “investigating the case from different angles”.
