TIMERGARA: Poisonous gas killed four persons inside an open well in Maidan area here on Sunday evening.

Villagers said the incident occurred in Sarsakhawaim village soon after Iftar when a labourer descended into a well to clean it. When he did not respond to calls from people standing outside, another labourer went into the well, but he also went silent.

Soon afterwards, two other men descended into the well, but they also fell unconscious.

Later, the residents started rescue work and retrieved the four persons from the well and shifted them to a local hospital where the doctors pronounced them dead.

The victims were identified as Abdul Qadir, Ikramul Haq, Rizwanullah and Sher Bahadar.

The Lal Qilla police registered a case and started further investigations.
