Another Pakistani citizen has died while in Indian custody, DawnNewsTV reported on Thursday citing diplomatic sources.
The cause of his death could not be independently confirmed, but media reports stated that he had died of natural causes.
Mohammad Azam, 62, had been charged by Indian authorities with crossing the border illegally and served his sentence at Ferozepur Jail.
His sentence had concluded in 2016, following which he was transferred to Amritsar Jail. He could not be repatriated to Pakistan despite the conclusion of his sentence.
On Feb 25 of this year, he had been shifted to Amritsar's Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, where he breathed his last.
Azam becomes the second Pakistani prisoner to die in India following the death of Shakirullah, who was beaten to death by a group of inmates at the Jaipur Central Jail on Feb 20.

What a shame and degradation of human conduct in India! He completed his sentence, suffered another two years of illegal confinement. This is height of human rights violations. India had stoned to death another of our prisoner. Can we pursue some human rights violations to International Red Cross and to World Human Rights Counsel. Was he provided a legal defense before any sentence? Does Pakistani has only to follow Geneva Conventions and not Human Rights violations?

What has happened is so sad. RIP. But we do not hide if some thing when it goes wrong. We accept our failures and correct them going forward. Indian media could have easily snubbed this news but we didn't. At least we have transparency to that extent.

India and Pakistan are equally responsible for the death of prisoners especially if any prisoner dies in custody after serving the punishment. Pakistan has consulates in India and India has in Pakistan, all well staffed but not working for the welfare of their citizen. One thing is common for the citizen of both countries that their governments are not protecting them. Where was the foreign office what they were doing how could they leave a citizen stranded in jail for three year three day in jail is a life changing experience, if Indians are responsible for the death the blames also must goes to foreign office and respective consular for receiving salaries but sleeping on jobs.

This story is same in both India and Pakistan where due to lack of political will, indian prisoners in pakistan and pakistani prisoners in India are jailed without any trial...can we agree that those prisoners who haven't faced trial for more than a year or served their jail sentence may be deported at once? The problem is when even fishermen are charged for spying and then there is no way out....

@Tanveer, if you look into how many prisoners in India died in the jails you will see there will be many. It is not a discrimination against Pakistani. It is more to do with mismanagement and poor administrations in Indian jails and simply governments don't care. Everyone feel all people in jails are criminals even though most cases are pending and do not take care of anyone in the jails. It's truly a very sad state of affairs.
