DERA GHAZI KHAN: Three personnel of the Punjab Highway Patrol police and a local man were injured as gunmen opened fire on a police team that confronted them during a motorcycle snatching incident on the Indus Highway in the precincts of Kala police station.

According to police sources, a team of the Punjab Highway Patrol police was on routine patrolling when the personnel saw some robbers trying to snatch a motorcycle from a local, Ramzan (35), on the Indus Highway.

On seeing the team, the robbers opened indiscriminate fire on the police, besides shooting at the motorcycle owner, who was hit in the leg. The criminals then managed to escape.

Rescue 1122 personnel, who were called to the spot, shifted the injured policemen Irshad Husain, Ghulam Farid and the local, Ramzan, to the Trauma Centre for their treatment.

District Police Officer Atif Nazir said police had cordoned off the area and a search operation to arrest the robbers was in progress.

Deputy Commissioner Iqbal Mazhar, who is also senior commandant of the Border Military Police, told Dawn that the BMP’s quick response force had also launched an operation in tribal area to trace out the fleeing criminals.
