PESHAWAR: The health workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have rejected the provincial health policy and threatened to boycott the anti-polio campaign, commencing from Jan 21.

They said that they would launch a protest campaign across the province against the provincial government for its failure to accept their demands.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Provincial Paramedical Association president Syed Roidar Shah said that government was least bothered to resolve the issues of paramedics, serving in different medical facilities of the province.

Flanked by other office-bearers of the association including general secretary Luqman Gul Orakzai, he said that they had taken up the issues with officials of health department but the authorities started revengeful actions against the paramedics. “The recent action of the administration of Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar against paramedics is a glaring example of victimisation,” he added.

Mr Shah said that the officials of health department were forcing the health workers to withdraw their demands. He said that they would not tolerate pressure tactics and would continue struggle to get their due rights.

He demanded implementation of the notification regarding restructuring of paramedical staff.
