KHAR: A tribal elder was seriously wounded when a roadside bomb exploded in Nawagai tehsil of Bajaur tribal district on Friday.

Residents and officials said the incident occurred at about 9am in the hilly Hasham Charmang area, situated near Pak-Afghan border.

The officials said Malik Ameer Mohammad was on way to a nearby area from his home when a remote-controlled bomb placed along the road by unidentified miscreants went off.

The elder was seriously wounded and was first taken to the district head quarters hospital, Khar, and then shifted to a major hospital in Peshawar owing to his critical condition, an official told Dawn.

Local administration officials along with personnel of Bajaur Levies reached the area and started a search operation to arrest the people responsible for the blast. However, no arrest had been made till filling of this report on Friday evening.

The locals said the elder had no personal enmity with anyone in the area.
