MANSEHRA: A man died after being buried under an avalanche in Battakundi area of Kaghan valley on Monday.

The incident occurred as Mohammad Shabbir of the agriculture department was on the way to workplace.

He was hit by a heavy mass of ice rolling down a hill, witness Mehran Gilanitold reporters. He said over 70 residents pulled out the body from under the 30 feet snow.

Gilani said the snowfall, which began in Kaghan valley on Sunday, hampered the rescue operation.

Also in the day, the Mansehra police seized arms and narcotics and arrested four outlaws in Kaghan valley during a crackdown.

The four included Shah Mohammad, Shan Ishtiaq, Mohammad Bilal and Muqadar Shah.

ELECTROCUTED: A man was electrocuted in Karori village of Oghi tehsil on Monday.

The incident occurred as Khan Bahadar accidently touched naked power wires while turning on a well motor. He was taken to the nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.

Also in the day, a fraudster deprived a Tarangri Pain villager of Rs130,000.

Retired army soldier Nawab Khan said a man sought his bank account details over the telephone and withdrew Rs130,000 after he offered the same.

ILLEGAL TIMBER SEIZED: The forest department on Monday seized a large quantity of illegal timber and arrested two men for illegal logging in Gulibagh area here on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the forest department led by Giadarpur range officer Mohammad Zahoor stopped two jeeps and seized beams made of eight illegally cut deodar trees. The officials said the timber was being smuggled out of the district.

They said the arrested men, including Mohammad Yasir and Tanveer Ahmad, were booked under the Forest Act.
