KARACHI: The Karachi Bar Association (KBA) has announced a boycott of legal proceedings at the City Courts and subordinate judiciary on Tuesday (today) in protest over the removal of Islamabad High Court’s senior puisne judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on the recommendation of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).

KBA chief Syed Haider Imam Rizvi said the decision of the boycott was unanimously taken at a meeting of the bar association’s managing committee on Monday. A general body meeting would also be held on Tuesday to decide the future course of action in this regard, he added.

Acting on the recommendation of the SJC, President Arif Alvi had removed Justice Siddiqui as a judge of the IHC on Oct 11.

The SJC headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar had reportedly stated that it found Justice Siddiqui guilty of misconduct for his July 21 remarks at the District Bar Association Rawalpindi about alleged interference by the country’s premier spy agency in judicial proceedings.
