BAHAWALPUR: The Civil Lines police claimed on Thursday to have arrested two members of an interprovincial gang of alleged murderers and robbers operating in the districts of Bahawalpur and Kohat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to the DPO office, the Sunny gang was allegedly involved in the murder of one Abdullah in an attempted robbery at a medical store at Shahdara Colony and Irshad alias Jabbi along the railway lines.

The police have arrested ringleader Sanaullah alias Sunny and his accomplice, Asghar Ali. They have also confessed to committing a number of robberies and murders in Kohat (KP) whose police officials would now be called here for handing them over the arrested members of the gang.

The police are trying to arrest the other members of the gang.

SECURITY: The police have increased security across the district for 10th of Muharram.

According to DPO Dr Muhammad Iqbal, over 3,000 police officials, including personnel of Elite Force, Dolphin Force and other law enforcing agencies (LEAs), would be deployed for the security of over 200 processions of Alam, Zuljanah and Tazias in the city, tehsil headquarters and other towns of the district.

The main Zuljanah procession on Ashura in the city would be taken out from Shia Jamia Masjid on Zananan Hospital Road. Shops and bazaars in other parts of the city would remain closed today (Friday). The people would be forbidden to use the roofs of the shops and houses to witness the processions across the district.

Rehan Gilani of the Regional Police Office said over 9,000 police personnel would be deployed for the security of about 600 processions in three districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan on Friday.
