LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate for National Assembly constituency NA-124 (Lahore-II) Chaudhry Zaheer has announced quitting the electoral race and joining the rival Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

Mr Zaheer announced his change of heart at a press conference in the presence of PTI Senator Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, ex-MNA Shafqat Mehmood and others here on Tuesday. He said the PPP had deviated from its manifesto while PTI was working for the welfare of people.

Senator Sarwar held both the PPP and PML-N responsible for their current state of affairs and said that the people were abandoning these parties because they couldn’t do anything for their respective electorate.

Meanwhile, PPP ex-Senator Taj Haider has said that Mr Zaheer had been given the party ticket at the 11th hour though he didn’t deserve it.
