LAHORE: The city district administration says it will get medical check-up of the transgender persons conducted in case of any doubt on the gender of such applicants seeking computerised national identity cards (CNICs).

It also says that the transgender applicants will have to submit an affidavit/undertaking declaring the information (transgender name, guardian/father (Guru’s name) etc., as correct.

“The transgender persons are required to append an affidavit with their applications for CNICs containing information on their name, father name (Guru’s name), address etc. In case of any doubt on the gender, the officials concerned will get medical examination of such applicants conducted in hospitals,” Lahore’s Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Anwarul Haq said while presiding over a meeting held here to review the criteria to issue CNICs to the transgender community.

He urged the transgender community representatives to submit their reservations in writing on the process being devised to issue CNICs. “Since Nadra has also been asked to set up special counters for issuance of CNICs to the transgender persons, we have appointed the additional deputy commissioner (headquarters) as focal person/representative of the city district administration on this issue,” he added.

The participants also discussed another issue of those applicants having no Gurus/guardians. However, they agreed to resolve the matter in the next meeting. Transgender’ representative Saima Butt, Muhammad Bashir Javed, Nadra Deputy Director Tariq Mahmood, Deputy Secretary Dr Shahid Latif, District Health Authority CEO Dr Shahnaz, Advocate Malik Arshad and city administration officials attended the meeting.

OPERATION: The Lahore Divisional Administration on Monday directed all the deputy commissioners/district monitoring officers to continue crackdown on all those flouting code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan for the upcoming general elections.

“You must send reference against elected local bodies’ representatives or government officials if you see their involvement or interest in the election campaign of any political party,” Lahore Commissioner Dr Mujtaba Paracha said while presiding over a meeting.

He directed the officials to issue warning, show-cause notices and impose fines on all those candidates flouting the ECP’s code of conduct.

Sheikhupura RPO, Lahore DIG operations, DCs of Lahore, Nankana Sahib and Kasur and all district election commissioners attended the meeting.

On the other hand, several teams of city administration removed several oversize banners, leaflets, posters etc displayed by the candidates of various constituencies in violation of the ECP’s code.

Similarly the teams representing the Lahore Municipal Corporation and city administration removed dozens of encroachments in various parts of the metropolis.
