RAWALPINDI: Car parking fees for airport functionaries at the Islamabad International Airport was increased from Rs100 to Rs600 per month without any intimation from the parking contractor on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said the price hike was due to a new tender in which the price fee was increased to Rs600 in ‘A’ category airports across the country.

“Car park charges for airport functionaries, except the CAA employees, at category ‘A’ airports is always high compared to ‘B’ or ‘C’ category airports,” the spokesperson said.

The parking fee for airport functionaries at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport was Rs100. Parking fee was not charged at the new airport when it was made functional on May 3 this year.

Airport authorities say the parking lot has been outsourced and they have nothing to do with the decision.
