KASUR: Hundreds of officials of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) staged a demonstration on Monday against Changa Manga police for failing to arrest 30 people who allegedly tortured a Lesco team, opened fire on them and snatched their official van.

The protest was held outside the Chunian sub-divisional police officer’s office where the agitators demanded inclusion of Section 7 of the ATA in the first information report (FIR).

The protesters threatened to cut power supply of all police stations in the district if the suspects were not arrested.

According to complainant West Chunian Sub-Divisional Officer Muzammil Hussain, during a crackdown on power thieves on April 21, he and his team found Muhammad Asghar of Muqam village using direct power supply. Later, it was revealed that Asghar was using direct supply at his petrol pump and a brick kiln.

Hussain stated that the team also went to the brick kiln of Asghar’s brother Muhammad Mukhtar and found him using direct power supply too.

Mukhtar and Asghar argued with Lesco officials and later allegedly attacked the team along with 30 associates when the team was on its way back to its office. They allegedly held the Lesco officials at gunpoint, injured three of them, opened fire on them and took away an official vehicle, and fired in the air before leaving the scene.

Police registered a case under sections 462-1 of Electricity Act, 337-L 2, A-1, 506 and 186 of PPC without any arrests so far.

On the assurance of the local administration, the protesters dispersed peacefully, but threatened to resume their protest if the suspects were not arrested.

CASE REGISTERED: Police on Monday registered a case against a suspect under Section 7 of the ATA for firing inside the Allahabad police station and injuring three people, including a policeman.

Shaukat Ali was involved in a property dispute with his business partner Allah Ditta. Allahabad police had called both of them to the police station on Saturday to sort out the matter. After an argument, Ali opened fire on Allah Ditta in front of the muharrar’s office.

Three people, including Allah Ditta, policeman Mukhtar Ahmed and villager Muhammad Irfan, were injured. Police arrested Ali and recovered his weapon on the spot and registered a case against him.

RECOVERED: Allahabad police claimed to have recovered a boy who was missing for a week.

Kashif, 13, had gone missing a week ago. Police had registered a case against unidentified suspects under Section 363 of PPC.

Police claimed that Kashif had been recovered from Vehari district where he was residing with his relatives. He was annoyed with his parents over an issue, they added.
