A fire broke out in a multistorey building in Karachi's Bahadurabad area on Thursday evening, according to KMC officials.

The KMC’s Fire Brigade official told Dawn that the blaze erupted in shops located on ground floor of the multistorey building near Char Minar roundabout.

As many as 10-12 fire tenders were sent to control the blaze.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal's Superintendent Police (SP) Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto told Dawn that the fire erupted in clothing stores located on the ground floor of a residential building before spreading up the structure.

New Town SHO Hikmat Ali added that the families residing in the building were evacuated safely with the help of rescue services and no loss of life or injuries were reported.

Thick smoke emanating from the fire made breathing difficult in the vicinity.
