LAHORE: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and the Punjab School Education Department signed an agreement to set up a cadet college in Fort Munro, ​​Dera Ghazi Khan, here on Sunday.

The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Energy Minister Awais Laghari, outgoing Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman and other officials, while the agreement was signed by education secretary Dr Allah Bakhash Malik and Deputy Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Shahid Akhtar Alvi on behalf of their respective departments.

The government will spare 100 acres at the hill station for the college as well as a grant of Rs1 billion for the project.

Mr Sharif welcomed the agreement as a welfare step for inhabitants of Dera Ghazi Khan and a role model for cooperation between the Punjab government and the PAF. He reposed his confidence in the professional capabilities of the PAF to defeat enemies and lauded its services for the well-being of society.

Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman said that providing education and other facilities to public is a joyful and gratifying honour for him. He said the PAF is the pride of nation as it has attained self-sufficiency in manufacturing modern equipment, including aircraft and other combat gadgets.

Earlier, the Air Chief Marshal called on the chief minister and discussed various issues related to the establishment of the cadet college.
