CHITRAL: Six people were killed when a car going to Dir plunged into a river from a height of more than 1,500 feet on Chitral-Lowari road here on Wednesday.

An official of Ayun police station told Dawn that the car was over-speeding when it collided with another car coming from the opposite direction, and plunged into the river.

He said four of the dead belonged to the same family.

They were identified as Nizamuddin, his wife, son Faheemuddin and brother-in-law Mufti Mahmood of Chew Dok village; driver Tanvir Ahmed of Chumurkon and Samiur Rahman of Gologh Denin.

The bodies of two persons, including Faheem and Mufti Mahmood, could not be retrieved from the river till filing of this report on Wednesday evening.

District Nazim Maghfirat Shah and additional deputy commissioner Minhasuddin rushed to the spot and supervised the search operation to retrieve the bodies.

Besides, the people of Ayun reached the spot in large numbers and started search for the bodies before the arrival of Rescue 1122 officials.
