KARACHI: The Mominabad SHO and two policemen have been dismissed from service for misuse of powers that led to the killing of a teenage boy on Nov 12.

Rehan, 14, had died when police opened fire in what they claimed was an encounter with drug peddlers.

Subsequently, West Zone DIG Zulfiqar Ali Larik formed a committee under Central District SSP Irfan Ali Baloch to investigate the matter.

“Our inquiry found that SHO Mumtaz Marwat and policemen Majid Jadoon and Abdul Razzaq abused their powers and resorted to firing at the behest of a private person, Tahir alias Dipu, and his friend Akram Farooqi,” SSP Baloch informed Dawn.

Sharing further findings of the inquiry, he said, “Tahir called the police party for his help as he was involved in a brawl with the residents of the area, where the incident occurred, as he had some relations with a girl of the same area.

“When Tahir quarrelled with the people, the police also intervened at his behest and opened fire which resulted in the death of the boy.

“The entire episode was wrongly given the colour of an encounter to cover up policemen’s negligence.

“Following the inquiry report, the DIG has dismissed the SHO and the two policemen from service.”

The police officer further said, “Besides dismissal from service, the three will also be charge sheeted in the murder case already registered at the Mominabad police station.”
