KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah will inaugurate Karachi development package phase II, which costs Rs8 billion, on Dec 15 and on the same day, one track of the Submarine Chowk underpass will be opened to traffic.

These decisions were taken at a meeting presided over by the chief minister on Monday and attended by Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, principal secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, local government secretary Ramzan Awan, Karachi Commissioner Aijaz Khan, Karachi package’s project director Niaz Soomro and other officials.

Mr Shah, while reviewing progress of phase I, directed the local government department to complete all formalities to start work on phase II on the given date.

Submarine Chowk underpass will be opened to traffic on same day

Some of the prominent targets of phase II are: reconstruction of the bridge at Tipu Sultan Road and Khalid Bin Waleed Road intersection at Shaheed-i-Millat Rd, remodelling of Landhi Rd, improvement of the road from Fawwara Chowk to Garden via Abdullah Haroon Rd and back to Fawwara Chowk via Zaibunnisa Street, construction of a bridge at Sunset Boulevard and Gizri Boulevard intersection, improvement of water supply to Baldia Town, construction of storm-water drain from Hasan Square to Lyari River, reconstruction of Tipu Sultan Rd from Sharea Faisal to Karsaz, widening of Stadium Rd from University Rd to Rashid Minhas Rd and improvement of the road near Cantt Station.

Mr Shah asked the project director to open one track of the Submarine underpass on Dec 15 and on the same day start work on the flyover at Sunset Boulevard.

“I want you to finalise an alternative route parallel to Sunset Boulevard for convenience of the people of the area,” he said.

Besides, the details of interchange bridge at ICI intersection and flyover at Lee Market have been hosted on the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority website for technical evaluation report.

The chief minister was also briefed about the progress of phase I.

Mr Shoro informed him that work on University Rd from NED to Safoora, Mosamiat Rd, the road from Surjani to Madinatul Hikmat, construction of U-turn at Natha Khan bridge, widening of Sharea Faisal from Metropole to Star Gate, remodelling of Baloch Colony Rd and reconstruction of Karachi zoo was proceeding at a good pace.
