PESHAWAR: A girl student of grade three died after allegedly falling off the school’s stairs in Hazarkhawni neighborhood of the city on Monday, police and locals said.

A police official at the Yakatut police station told Dawn that the incident took place at the government girls primary school number 1, Hazarkhwani. He said that an 11-year-old student of class-III fell off the stairs and died.

However, a relative who identified the child as Mahnoor said that apparently the girls in the class fought with each other and Mahnoor crashed onto the floor after receiving a push.

He said following the fall, she started bleeding from her nose. He said the school staff called a technician running medical store who asked them to shift the girl to hospital. He said that later they called Rescue 1122 who shifted her to the hospital; however, she died there.

The relative of the victim demanded action against the school’s head and teachers for neglecting their responsibility of maintaining discipline, which led to the death of her niece.

Yaktut police were yet to register an FIR in the case.
