GHALANAI: Residents of the backward Shaheed Banda area of Pindiali tehsil have constructed a more than four-kilometre road on their own to resolve their mobility problem.

Gul Zada, a volunteer with Pakistan Red Crescent, Mohmand Agency branch, told Dawn the road was constructed by Shaheed Banda youth welfare organisation with the help of PRCS.

“We have constructed shingle road from Ahmadi Kor to Sarhad Koroona, wherefrom the blacktopped road of Matta Mughal Khel starts,” he said.

Ali Man Shah, president of the welfare body, said the people were facing difficulties in the absence of a proper road. He said the volunteers collected donations from the villagers and started work on the road to resolve the longstanding problem.

“We hired an excavator, 12 tractors and two loaders for construction of the road,” said Mr Shah.

Shaheed Banda is a far-flung and neglected area of Mohmand, where literacy rate is very low.

The residents said a primary school for boys was set up in the area in 1980, while another primary school for girls was established in 2007.
