MARDAN: A man was killed and a passer-by injured when assailants opened fire on the victim over an old enmity in Shakar Tangai area here on Saturday.

The Jabbar police station officials quoted Noor Dad, maternal uncle of the victim, as saying he and his nephew identified as Rahmat Ali were going to Mardan to appear in court for hearing of a case when accused namely Waheed and his son Naveed opened fire on them near Shakar Tangai Chowk.

As a result, Ali was killed instantly, while a passer-by was injured. The injured man was identified as Ibrahim. He was shifted to hospital.

The complainant told the police that motive behind the killing was an old enmity.

The police lodged FIR against the accused, who escaped the area after the incident. The families of the victim and the accused are stated to be relatives.
