Two Pakistani diplomatic officials, recovered by Afghan security forces a day earlier, arrived at Benazir International Airport Islamabad via flight PK 205 on Thursday.

Jan Khan and Mohammad Aijaz, members of staff of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jalalabad, had been kidnapped while travelling from Jalalabad to Torkham on June 16.

Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Omar Zakhilwal had assured the Pakistani government that Afghanistan's security institutions and intelligence agencies would look for the abducted officials.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had personally phoned Pakistan’s charge d’affaires in Kabul to inform the mission that Afghan security forces had recovered the officials.

Subsequently, the two officials were handed over to the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul by the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They were welcomed by officials of the foreign ministry on their arrival in Islamabad on Thursday.
