LAHORE: Flour millers allege that “irresponsible” attitude of the government has led to Rs100 per 40kg fall in the market price of wheat.

The government’s “indifference” and “inappropriate” export policy has caused Rs100/40kg drop in the wheat price in the market, Punjab chapter chairman of Pakistan Flour Mills Association Riazullah Khan along with Asim Raza, Mian Riaz and others said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

They said if wheat growers had been hit by the federal authorities’ indifference towards the surplus wheat stock the millers were affected by the Punjab government’s delay in releasing export refund claims worth billions of rupees.

The lack of capital also prevented the millers from taking active part in the wheat procurement drive, further damaging the agriculture sector, they said.

They warned of a serious wheat flour crisis if the authorities did not act promptly to resolve the issues.
