LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday acquitted two alleged facilitators of the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.

The court issued the acquittal order of Ibrahim Khalil and Obaidullah after the prosecution failed to establish the charges.

At least eight people, including six policemen and two civilians, were killed and 20 injured in the attack. Around 12 terrorists had attacked a convoy carrying members of the Sri Lankan cricket team at Liberty Roundabout in March 2009.

Police had taken a number of suspects into custody, including Qari Zubair, Adnan Arshad, Abdul Wahab, Javed, Obaidullah and Ibrahim Khalil.

The Counter-Terrorism Department had gunned down alleged mastermind of the attack, Malik Ishaq, and two others in an ‘encounter’ last year.
