PESHAWAR: Four people, including head of a local Aman Lashkar, were killed and another was injured when unidentified attackers opened fire on their vehicle on the outskirts of the city here on Monday evening, police said.

A police official told Dawn that the incident took place at Iftar, saying the slain were heading to the Adezai village when unidentified attackers opened fire on them near Koh Daman area.

The area falls in the limits of Mattani police station, sharing borders with the Darra Adamkhel tribal region.

The official said one of the slain, Haji Irshad, was leader of the Adezai Aman Lashkar, while the other victims were identified as Waheed, Mohammad Ali. The injured was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital.

The attackers, whose number could not be immediately ascertained, opened fire on the vehicle with an AK-47 assault rifle and managed to escape from the scene.

However, the police official said it was not clear whether it was a militancy-related incident or had some other motive. “We are investigating it,” the official said.

The Adezai Aman Lashakr has faced the highest number of attacks in the provincial capital in recent times.
