The provincial Home and Tribal Affairs Department along with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have completed their consultation on the formation and features of the security force being established to protect the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), said a statement issued by the provincial government.

The KP government will foot the Rs1.2 billion budget for purchases which will include equipment, weapons, ammunition and vehicles, read the statement.

The special security force will initially comprise 4,200 security personnel deputed from different law enforcement agencies on a contractual basis, the statement said.

The new force will have its own chain of command, while its formation strength will be increased gradually.

A special cell will also be established in the provincial Home and Tribal Affairs department to daily monitor the activities related to CPEC security, international investors, and the flow of investments.

The CPEC security force will exist in all divisions of the province where the projects related to CPEC are operational.
