A day after an exam paper of the Sukkur education board was leaked, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday warned that whoever was responsible for the leak "will be sent home", DawnNews reported.

"There is no room for forgiveness in this matter," Shah said after a paper of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Sukkur's class nine was leaked.

The chief minister instructed the board and the university secretary to submit a "detailed report" on the matter on an urgent basis.

Earlier this week, during a a meeting to review the overall performance of the provincial education department, Shah had promised to overhaul the public education system through unprecedented measures aimed at reforming the system.

According to his envisioned plan, the Sindh government will work to improve teaching skills, make education totally free, develop a high quality curriculum and offer stipends to girl students.

Cheating during examinations is rampant in Sindh and Balochistan, especially in high stake examinations.

There have been reported incidents of a whole mafia operating behind the cheating business in the past.

Several hundred cases of cheating and impersonation have been detected at various centres across the interior of Sindh.

Students have been caught cheating in exams with the help of smartphones and individuals have been found passing on solved papers and other cheating material from outside the centers to candidates.

Approaches to teaching, learning and assessment adopted by educational institutions may be one of the root causes for the prevailing cheating culture in the country.
