Karachi police on Thursday rescued an 11-year-old boy working as a domestic servant in a house in Karachi's Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area, officials said.
The minor was recovered with visible marks of torture on his body, they added.
Darakhshan police raided a house located on Khayaban-e-Shamsheer in DHA and arrested owner of the house over charges of illegally confining and torturing the 11-year-old boy, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Karachi-South Saqib Ismail Memon told Dawn.
SSP Memon said the 11-year-old was recovered in "bad condition".
The senior officer said a complaint had been brought forward by the boy's father, Mohammed Ishaq, who accused Rizwan of preventing the 11-year-old from meeting his family in his hometown in Badin.
He also alleged that the owner was subjecting his son to maltreatment
The police then conducted an investigation and raided Rizwan's house, recovering Ishaq's son.
The boy was sent to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a medical examination.

If it is true that the boy was tortured then the culprits must be punished no matter how important and influential they may be. I can understand that a lot of uneducated and poor people have large families and cannot feed themselves. Therefore, in order to survive they leave their children at affluent people's homes as domestic servants. However, there is no justification for torturing a boy who is not even a teenager. I hope that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan would take a suo moto notice of this terrible incident and make sure that the perpetrators of the offense get appropriate punishment.

Large families lead to a poverty trap. We need to control the mad population explosion and introduce a one child policy. This is the only solution for the poor to come out of their misery.

@Aamir Before mandating the number of children people have, first ensure that contraception is readily available and people know how to use it. If/when this happens, many people may voluntarily restrict their family size. I doubt that any responsible parent wants to bring a child into the world, when they lack the means to adequately raise it.

Punish the father first why he send kid for work. His son is his responsibility. You throw your own kid in the street and expect other to nice with your kid.

Shame on all those who hire such children for domestic work.It is common in DHA Karachi that they hire young boys/ girls to work at Bunglows on yearly contract of say Rs 60000. The parents mostly from Saraiki Area of Punjab or some from rural Sindh,just left their children and mostly come after 1 year to collect money. The ghettos near DHA Karachi is ' Shah Rasool Colony'and 'Nelum Colony'these colony are stopover to Saraiki peasants and rural Sindh poor,hundreds of such children are working in DHA KARACHI Bunglows. And it is not easy for any institution to curb this menace of hiring children for domestic works.Besides many other apalling things like drug addict children are often seen near Abdullah Shah Ghazi tomb but no NGO or other social welfare organization care to help these poor children,often subject to abused there.The Governor Sindh,or CM Sindh should take notice of this dilemma happening right in middle of posh localities DHA & CLIFTON KARACHI. It's a humanitarian aspect.
