DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Activists of Pakhtun Students Federation allegedly disrupted a function organised by Islami Jamiat Talaba on the campus of Gomal University here on Wednesday.

Sources said that the situation turned tense after the PkSF activists uprooted a camp set up by the IJT activists as part of a talent award show on the campus. Provincial finance minister Muzaffar Said was scheduled to participate in the event.

The PkSF also organised a demonstration on the campus to protest against the Punjab University incident in which the IJT allegedly stopped a cultural show organised by Pakhtun students on Tuesday. The varsity administration held talks with the PkSF activists to call off its protest, but some students went to the IJT camp and uprooted it.

A big contingent of police also reached the campus to cope with the situation. In the view of the Punjab University incident, the Gomal University administration had asked the IJT to cancel the second day events of its programme, but they set up a camp which created tension.

Later, deputy commissioner Muatasim Billah and district police officer Yasir Afridi held talks with leaders of PkSF and IJT in the presence of university administration officials and resolved the issue. The IJT was allowed to hold its function after a few days.
