Abid survives Muzammil test

KARACHI: Mohammad Abid had to face tough resistance from Muzammil Murtaza before winning 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 in the men’s singles semi-final of the Ebrahim Merchant Memorial tennis tournament here at Karachi Gymkhana on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the doubles contests, brothers Aqeel Khan and Yasir Khan cruised past the Sahibzada Ali-Raza Sawani pair 6-3, 6-3.

Results:

Men’s singles (semi-final): Mohammad Abid bt Muzammil Murtaza 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.

U-16 (quarter-finals): Zubair Raja bt M Dada 7-5, 6-2; Noor-e-Mustafa bt Yahya Khan 6-2, 6-3.

U-14 (second round): Rayyan Jawad bt Ghufran Fiaz 6-1, 6-2.

Men’s doubles (second round): Aqeel Khan/Yasir Khan bt Sahibzada Ali/Raza Sawani 6-3, 6-3; Reza Ali Mirza/Asad Ali bt Mudassir Murtaza/ Muzammil Murtaza 6-4, 4-6, 10-8; Abdal/Ahmed Chaudhry bt Omair Saeed/Hafiz Arbab 7-5, 6-1.
