RAHIM YAR KHAN: A special team of Pakistan Railways (PR) on Thursday demolished huts of nomads and illegal structures near the station and railway track near Unilever underpass and Abbasia Town during an operation.

The railway officials of Khanpur surveyed the station and track a few days ago and found encroachment and inadequate security measures.

PR Assistant Executive Engineer (Khanpur) Ahmed Hassan Randhawa told journalists that he conducted a survey of track from Khanpur to Rohri stations and found encroachment. He said the team demolished shanties and other illegal structures.

He said security of railway tracks had been heightened and a boundary wall would be constructed to secure the railway stations of Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad soon.

The nomad families and owners of some makeshift shops protested against the operation. They alleged that some railway officers were getting monthly amount from them to let them stay.
