Police on Sunday night claimed to have arrested a police official on charges of hiding arms and ammunition for a political party.

"A policeman and another person were arrested over charges of hiding arms and ammunition linked with a political party," said SSP Central Muqaddas Haider.

The policeman, identified as Atif Meraj, was posted at the Gulshan-i-Maymar police station, said the police official and added that the cache of arms was recovered from a home in New Karachi area.

The raid was conducted on a tip-off, claimed the police official.

The accused had allegedly stocked the weapons on behest of a unit in-charge of a political party, revealed the SSP and added that the house owner was also apprehended.
