LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police claimed on Monday to have arrested two members of a banned outfit from Bahawalpur and recovered explosives.

A CTD spokesman said they received information about the presence of ‘terrorists’ planning to attack some installation in Bahawalpur. A CTD team raided a house on Airport Road near railway line around 3pm and arrested two members of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ).

He said the suspects were identified as Khalid Mahmood and Sajjad, adding the CTD team also recovered explosive material and two live grenades. He said the suspected terrorists were later shifted to some location for further interrogation.

SENTENCED: The Gujranwala Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has sentenced a member of a banned outfit to 10-year imprisonment for spreading hate material.

The Gujranwala CTD had arrested Mujahid of Khanewal in April 2016 and recovered six banned books from him. A case was registered against him under sections 8/9 and 11w of ATA.

The presiding judge awarded five-year imprisonment each under both sections.
