KARACHI: Traffic jams on multiple thoroughfares, including the Superhighway, caused severe hardship and agony to a large number of motorists and commuters on Saturday.

Long queues of vehicles were witnessed on main M.A. Jinnah Road, Sharea Faisal, particularly from Regent Plaza to Metropole Hotel, University Road near Hassan Square, Sir Shah Sulaiman Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Tariq Road, Jahangir Road, Gurumandir, Quaidabad, Malir, Sohrab Goth, Water Pump, etc.

Some ambulances, too, were seen stuck for hours in the traffic jams.

Traffic officials said that vehicular traffic had already been moving at a slow pace for the past many weeks in the city due to simultaneous reconstruction of 20 different roads in the six Karachi districts. But the situation worsened after the recent rain as roads’ condition deteriorated with accumulation of rainwater and sewage at several spots.
