KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in Quaidabad on Sunday evening, police said.

They added that two suspects were allegedly looting people near Star Ground in Sherpao Colony when a police party acting on a tip-off raided the place.

On seeing the police, the suspects opened fire on them and during the exchange of fire one suspect identified as 28-year-old Zafar Ali, alias Supari, was gunned down, said Quaidabad DSP Saeed Ahmed Rind.

His accomplice escaped, added the officer.

The police claimed to have seized a pistol, looted Rs8,000 cash and a mobile phone from his possession.

The DSP said the dead was a known criminal in the locality and wanted in several cases.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
