UPPER DIR: District nazim Sahibzada Fasihullah has said that jirga system is the traditional feature of the Pakhtun society and many major disputes have been resolved through such forums. He said that the district government would provide its full cooperation to the dispute resolution councils in the district.

The nazim was speaking at the concluding ceremony of a workshop organised in Dir for capacity building of the DRC members.

He said that the DRC members should resolve disputes without any favoritism.

The workshop was organised by the Strengthening Rule of Law Project in collaboration with Sarhad Rural Support Programme and police department.

The district officer finance and planning, district education officer, representatives of local support organisations and members of DRCs attended the workshop.

Mohammad Ismail advocate said that the DRC system was effective for speedy justice because once even a minor case went to the court it took years to decide due to slow process.

He said that DRCs would solve the dispute at the early stage and provide justice to the people. He said that Dir bar council would provide its support to the DRCs.

Khan Badshah, a member of DRC, said that the district DRC had 63 members. He said that the DRC of Upper Dir had received a total of 185 cases during last three years of which177 had been resolved through mediation while five cases were under process.

SRSP’s Noor Ajab said that they would help the DRCs in providing justice to people on their door step.
