Russia supports China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project: Envoy

Russia says it "strongly" supports the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project as it is crucial for Pakistan's economy and regional connectivity.

According to an interview on Radio Pakistan, this was stated by Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Alexey Y Dedov.

Dedov pointed out that CPEC is a component of China's Silk Road and his country was also working on a similar Eurasian Economic Union. He added that China and Russia are holding discussions to merge the two projects.

Asked about Pakistan's North-South gas pipeline project, the Russian Ambassador said they are eager to finalise the project at the soonest.

The ambassador said the two countries are closely cooperating in different areas but there is a need to enhance the volume of bilateral trade.

About the MI-35 gunship helicopter deal between the two countries, he said the contract has already been signed and it is now for the officials concerned to define a time-frame for the purpose.

Replying to a question, the Russian ambassador said his country wants Pakistan and India to resolve all issues including Jammu and Kashmir through peaceful means.

He said Pakistan and Russia are also closely cooperating in efforts for restoration of peace in Afghanistan.

A new political map is emerging in Asia with players like China, Pakistan, Iran, Russin and a few others. India has chosen to follow the path of aggression against the Muslim majority states of Kashmir and Pakistan and see any economic gains and the betterment of the Pakistani people as something bad which must be damaged by proxies from their position in Afghanistan and even directly with agents like Kolboshan Yadevs.

Very soon US will follow Russia. Little doubt that with all this support Pakistan is gradually emerging as the Leader of Central Asia. For a while Pakistan should ignore Indian by not heeding to her request for bilateral talks.Once CPEC is fully operational,Pakistan will have cutting edge over her..and India will have to come to sensible terms with Pakistan on Kashmir and Water Treaty. Hegemony will end before behemoth !!

CPEC passes thru Gilgit-Blatistan which is heaven on earth for its clean clear unpolluted environment stress should be given to maximize transport by trains and minimize pollution by trucks which emit diesel residue. Also some part of this land will be permanently used for road hence toll or little profit share should be allotted to preserve environment of the region.

What a happy moment for many in Pakistan for just few statement from an ambesedor of a country, whoes normal job is to keep relation with hosting country cordial (exception Mr. bashit) Unfortunately this ambesedor is from Russia and not from USSR becuase of their historical cordial relation Pakistan. Of course both of them have to now do some good work because problem of Afghanistan that they are trying to recover now started by them!!

How Russia is speaking only with china about merging CPEC and Euresian corridor when the whole CPEC is passing through Pakistan. They should discuss with pakistan first and get its consent and financial discussions can be done China later. We shouldnt allow china to dictate things where pak is also invloved.

Russia supported 100 billion dollars super China highway that goes all the way into Europe and so is Russia supporting this CPEC. Any trade expansion must be welcome by all as it brings prosperity. But this CPEC could become even bigger than 100 billion dollars super highway of China working good for many tears.It looks like China will build gas pipe lines to boost its gas use which needs urgent boost to to over 12 trillion cubic feet use a year. CPEC will be like Trans Canada Highway, which was soon followed by build up of over 60 billion dollars Trans Canada Pipe line to ship 3 trillion cubic feet of gas per year.If China imports 5 trillion cubic feet of gas from middle east in future, CPEC will have big over 100 billion dollars gas pipeline sister besides initial 46 billion dollars investment.

CPEC could have pipeline system to supply gas to China as big as Trans Canada pipeline and Enbridge pipeline that are over 120 billion dollars investment to transport over 6 trillion cubic feet gas per year and China may need even more than that. Pakistan could benefit lot as pipe line to China passage as China is desperate to fill its gas use shortfall. Canada benefits lots from its transport export of over 4 trillion cubic feet gas to America via Trans Canada Pipeline and Enbridge pipeline besides building an other new pipeline Keystone to export gas to US. China could even set up oil refining in Pakistan to ship value added refined products gasoline and diesel via Pakistan instead of shipping crude oil via Pakistan by trains or trucks.Gasoline and diesel sell at about 1600 dollars per ton or 220 dollars per barrel instead of crude oil selling at 50 dollars per barrel. That will be economic and good transport via Pakistan to China.

Building oil refineries in Pakistan besides building gas to China pipelines makes sense. The heavily expanded CPEC related transports will need gasoline and diesel use and new built refineries will fit in well. Chinese built refineries and gas pipelines can also supply some to Pakistan and shiip to China as well. Pakistan economy can get mega boost and bring prosperity to the people there.

@viv , Chahbahar is a very small harbor for very small cargo ships very much INSIDE the coastal line and capacity with only 3 births, only 2 births can be used for loading/unloading while the 3rd one for emergencies for unknown, whereas Gawadar, is a deep Sea harbor which has a capacity to accommodate super duper cargo ships.Iran is smart they are not spending a Penny for their own for this limited used project that's why Iranian foreign minister visited Pakistan in September, 2016 to partcipate in CPECK route to get a nod from Pakistan when it is operational which it has already. If Chahbahr is so fesible for Iran whey they are so eager to join CPECK?
