LAHORE: Provincial Secretary for Women Development Department Bushra Aman says the government is committed to safeguarding the rights of women and their socio-economic empowerment.

Addressing a seminar titled “hertalk’ against Gender Based Violence” here at Kinnaird College for Women, Ms Aman underscored the need for collective efforts for elimination of discrimination against women in all forms.

She said various programmes, including awareness seminars, documentary films and art competitions, were arranged by the department while at a rare event the Minar-i-Pakistan was decorated with orange lights to support the international campaign ‘Orange the World’ to stop violence against women.

She appreciated the cooperation of UNWOMEN, APWA and all educational institutions for making the campaign a success.

Prof Salima Hashmi highlighted the traditional role of women and the problems faced by them in society in detail.

She urged the students to pay full attention towards their education so that they could contribute to the efforts against the negative and prejudice attitude towards women.

Speaking on the occasion, fashion designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY) gave credit to his mother for every achievement in his life.

“The educated and empowered women can effectively build a better future for our generation,” said Yasin.
