KOHAT: The police arrested 17 outlaws, including two proclaimed offenders and their alleged facilitators, in a crackdown in the district on Wednesday.

The POs, identified as Aamir and Ashiq, were arrested from Mohammadzai and Mir Banda areas, respectively. The police also recovered nine kilogrammes of hashish, two shot guns, one rifle and three pistols.

All those arrested were shifted to the respective police stations where FIRs had been lodged against them.

Meanwhile, the Kohat police claimed to have arrested a militant involved in a bomb blast. According to a statement issued from the DPO office, the city police raided a house in Suleman Talab on Wednesday and arrested Obaid who was wanted in a case of carrying out a bomb blast at the Ustarzai bus stand at Peshawar Chowk in 2014.

It said that the accused was shifted to an unknown location for interrogation.

LAW CRITICISED: A representative of Wifaqul Madaris Arabia, Kohat division, Maulana Mujahid has termed the passage of ‘protection of minorities bill’ by the Sindh Assembly as unconstitutional and said it should be declared null and void.

In a statement issued here, the Maulana said that the said bill was in direct collision with the fundamentals of Islam and had also been termed as against the Constitution by the attorney general.

He said that passing of such a bill was beyond the jurisdiction of the provincial assembly of Sindh, as it was a national issue which should have been discussed and passed by the National Assembly after consultations with the Council of Islamic Ideology. He said that the Sindh Assembly should revisit its decision because such a sensitive issue could cause unrest in the country.
