LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has been pleaded to stay the upcoming mayoral election until decision on a pending petition challenging qualification of Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan, likely candidate of PML-N for Lahore’s mayor.

Advocate Sheraz Zaka filed the application, contending that the election of Mr Hassaan as chairman from UC-107 is already challenged before the court. He argues that since Mr Hassaan is also contesting elections for Lahore mayor, it will be wastage of taxpayers money if the court disqualifies him while deciding the petition.

The advocate asks the court to stay the election of Lahore mayor scheduled for Dec 22 till the petition against Hassaan is not decided. Justice Shahid Karim would take up the stay application on Monday.
