RAWALPINDI: A doctor was robbed and another individual was hospitalised after being shot during an attempted vehicle robbery in Satellite Town on Friday, the police and victims said.

Iram Rizwan reached her home on 7th Road with her husband and was climbing out of her car when two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle, who may have been following the couple, held them up at gunpoint.

The robbers, who appeared to be in their 30s, robbed Ms Rizwan and her husband of cash and jewellery. Ms Rizwan told the police she gave up gold bangles and rings weighing more than five tolas, because she feared the robbers would shoot them.

In a separate incident, Shahzad Khan from Satellite Town F-Block, was hospitalised after he was shot during an attempted robbery at his home.

In his complaint lodged with the New Town police, Mr Khan was inside his house when he saw some suspicious movement on his porch. He left his house to stop two unidentified individuals who were trying to steal his car, and was shot by them. The robbers fled the scene without the vehicle.

Drug smuggling bid foiled

The Airport Security Force (ASF) foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs to Madina in Saudi Arabia and arrested a passenger carrying 2 kilograms of methamphetamine in his hand luggage, at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

According to a senior ASF official, the seizure was made while passengers were checking in to Qatar Airways flight QR633. He said ASF staff grew suspicious when they saw a card box inside the luggage, after the passenger places his bag in the scanning machine.

The official said the passenger is from Mardan. He was asked for a manual search and initially hesitated before allowing the search, which led to the recovery of 2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine disguised as sweets. The passenger intended to travel to Madina via Doha, and was taken into custody by ASF personnel before being handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Force for legal proceedings.
