KARACHI: A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) official was killed while resisting a mugging attempt in Korangi on Tuesday night.

According to police, 32-year-old Zahid Farooq was going to the Creek Base from Korangi Base on his motorbike when he was intercepted by armed pillion riders near Bhitai Colony on a deserted and dark road.

“Witnesses said they heard a gunshot after a brief argument between the PAF official and the armed men,” said Inspector Rana Latif, the SHO of the Ibrahim Hyderi police station.

“He suffered a bullet wound and was taken to PNS Shifa hospital by his colleagues where he died. We also found a bullet case of a 30-bore pistol at the crime scene. The incident appears to be of street crime but investigations are under way to identify the killers and ascertain their motive.”
